The Vision Volleyball U17 boys team competed in the Ontario Championships in Waterloo April 19-21. They came home from the tournament with a silver medal.
The Vision team had a slow start but ended in the best possible situation. After starting off Friday not winning a game, they showed some signs of life the next day. Landing in Division 2 on Saturday, they were playing for seeding and played very well verses MAC Volleyball Club out of Hamilton. The team, behind some strong plays from the two veterans Tristan Landry and Alex Bernardi, played three sets and lost a close one in the third set. In the next game verses Oakville Thunder the Vision boys continued their strong play and easily won the game in two sets. This ended the day and set up an elimination game verses Etobicoke E381.
The North Bay team started strong the next day and defeated Etobicoke in two sets. This win moved them into the quarter final game verses Toronto West. The Vision team has not beaten Toronto in the last three meetings but on this day, they were up to the challenge and battled back from an 8 point deficit to win the first set. They kept rolling along in the second set and won the game.
The U17 Vision boys moved into the medal round and surprised everyone again by beating the Ottawa Mavericks in two sets, 25-15 and 25-15. They moved into the finals verses the Stouffville Stingers. The final game was a huge battle with both teams going point for point back and forth for two sets and each team taking a set. The third set was no change, and both teams were tied at 10. With Stouffville scoring a few key points, the Vision boys played hard but could not come back and went home with a silver medal.
The U17 Boys will represent the Vision Volleyball club in Edmonton at the National Championships at the start of May. The team has picked a great time of the year to hit their peak and are playing their best volleyball of the season.
